John Broussard is a second-generation native of Oakland, California. He began drawing at the early age of 7 and eventually took some art classes in his youth. Until recent years his most prolific art-making occurred during his secondary schooling and decades later as an art student at U.C. Berkeley.
After graduating from U.C. Berkeley, he worked in the corporate world remaining there until entering the field of education. Although some opportunities arose to engage in Art, including a 25 X 30 ft school mural project, Art teaching assignments, and District-wide Arts development and coordination, those years were largely consumed by other responsibilities.
Now retired, Broussard spends his time researching and sculpting historical African American figures and other people of interest.
